Hayley Grossan, LMHCA

A Note from Hayley:

Welcome to Twin Lakes Counseling!
I'm so glad you are here.

I believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the most fundamental part of the experience of counseling.

For this reason, I believe the relationship between therapist and client should be rooted in compassion, authenticity, and genuine connection. I find it is an absolute honor to sit with clients as they dive deeper into self-exploration and processing. I recognize the courage that it takes to come to therapy and to be willing to engage in personal work.

I admire you for being here and I look forward to connecting with you!

Hayley Grossan, LMHCA

Hayley is originally from Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2015. Her passion for the mental health field and her desire to reconnect with nature led her to Portland, Oregon, where she attended Lewis and Clark Graduate School. In 2019 she graduated with her Masters in Professional Mental Health Counseling, specializing in addictions.

Hayley knows the amount of courage it takes to unpack memories, emotions, and behavioral pattern and is honored to have a career supporting people through those times. One aspect of therapy that she finds most rewarding is being there for those "ah-ha" moments as her clients find clarity or understanding to some part of themselves or their situation.

In order to get to those moments, Hayley believes the first step is to gain an understanding of the client's presenting problems in a relational context. This is because she finds that problems often result from our attachment needs not being met, which are established sometimes very early on in our lives. To do this, Hayley uses her knowledge of attachment and emotion-focused theories to create a fuller picture of who her client is and how they got here.

From there, Hayley utilizes a variety of techniques that she feels will be most useful given her client's specific and presenting problems. For example, she finds that the tangible interventions offered by cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be very helpful in altering how a client thinks about or perceives themselves and their problems which can allow for healing and problem solving. As another example, Hayley has found motivational interviewing techniques to be most helpful for clients struggling with addiction as they seek to gain some control over their lives and a sense of empowerment and capability to change the course of their lives. In most all of her work, as a certified yoga teacher, Hayley also draws from her knowledge of mindfulness and meditation to help clients connect with themselves on a deeper level.

Hayley believes that it is important to balance conceptualizing the root causes of problems with practicing and teaching tangible skills. She also believes that a curious mind goes a long way in therapy, and that a client willing to explore different angles and perspectives of themselves and their experiences opens themselves up to greater healing and understanding. Hayley deeply values the therapeutic relationship and believes that through connection, compassion, and vulnerability, healing happens.
