Pronouns: She/Her
Jarryn's desire to help others originally took her down the path of medical school and her desire to become a psychiatrist. While deeply valuing the knowledge of the human body from a scientific perspective, Jarryn discovered an even greater passion after taking a psychology course that resonated with her on a deeper level. She decided to adjust her path and pursue becoming a therapist. Having completed a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Neuroscience from Purdue University, Jarryn went on to achieve a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana. Dedicated to the development of future therapists and her love for learning and growth, she continued her education to earn a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Jarryn deeply enjoys her work as a therapist. She has been working with children, adults, and families for almost 10 years in many areas including trauma, mental health relapse, substance use, racialized trauma, and identity development. Jarryn is knowledgeable in a variety of therapeutic modalities and tailors her approach to each client's needs. She also enjoys utilizing alternative treatment modalities such as ketamine assisted therapy and neurofeedback for individuals tackling treatment-resistant PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
As a therapist, Jarryn offers her clients the space to experience and work through thoughts, feelings, and experiences that might seem too difficult, complex, or painful to manage. There are times we need the empathetic, non-judgmental, knowledgeable, and skilled ear of a professional to help us do the work in order to live the life we want for ourselves. Jarryn wants to help guide you on your journey to find greater understanding, growth, and healing.
Jarryn also offers a growth mind-set as she is continually learning from and teaching others in her field. She has taught clinical practicum and internship courses, research methodologies, multicultural courses, human growth and development, ethics, and group therapy. Jarryn's research interests explores the experiences of women of color in academia, racialized trauma, microaggressions, and ethical ambiguity. It is one of her goals to continue to act as an educator, advocate, and mental health resource for the communities that we serve.
