Jennifer Davies, MHC Intern

A Note from Dr. Laura Wallace:

Welcome to Twin Lakes Counseling!
I'm so glad you are here.

I have been practicing marriage and family therapy for almost a decade and am truly passionate about the work I do. I have gathered a team of the best therapists around, and if you'll let us, we would love to explore how to use our expertise and your experience to make lasting and powerful change.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing where our work together takes us!

Jennifer Davies, MHC Intern

CLINICAL INTERN
Pronouns: She/Her

Jennifer comes to Twin Lakes Counseling personally aware of the courage and support it takes to seek help in areas of personal and relational brokenness for the sake of restorative healing and change. Jennifer was mentored by a close friend who helped her to clearly "see her face" and boldly walked alongside her as she courageously faced painful truths. Jennifer's mentor believed that through the forgiveness of self and others, she would begin the liberating process of exchanging broken patterns of living for healthy ones. Now, Jennifer desires to help others experience hope and healing amid life's heartaches.

Jennifer has become a firm believer in self-care and quality mental health. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in International Studies from Northern Michigan University and achieving her master's degree in Theological Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, Jennifer decided to pursue another master's degree, this time in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. With this additional education in counseling, combined with her life experiences and her passion for helping others find deeper meaning and understanding, she hopes to reach and journey with as many people as possible on their paths towards healing and freedom.

Jennifer is experienced with a wide variety of clients from children to adults to families struggling with a wide range of concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, and life transitions. She has a passion for children with special needs, individuals and families within the military community working through the unique circumstances that lifestyle brings, those struggling with PTSD, and marriages/relationships needing support. Jennifer uses many different techniques and modalities depending on each individual client. In particular, she is drawn to narrative therapy as it helps clients understand their own story and reveals how past experiences define and shape future functioning, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for when clients feel stuck within a pattern or cycle, as well as solution focused therapy.

Jennifer has found that the most impactful work is done when we are willing and able to be honest and emotionally naked. She knows this takes so much courage which is why one of her first goals is to develop trusting, authentic, and collaborative relationships with her clients as soon as possible. She loves being able to create a disarming, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment for her clients. There is no shame in her room, no condemnation, and nothing will shock or surprise her. Jennifer has experienced the gift of having someone she could "bear it all to" knowing they could hold it all, hold her, and hold the space with compassion, grace, kindness, and care. She loves that she can now be that person for others and has so much respect for those willing to show up in this way.

Jennifer approaches life and therapy with a faith-based and Christian orientation. It is where she finds strength, hope, and a deep sense of humility when sitting and working with a client. While she draws on her faith throughout all aspects of her life, she is aware it does not resonate with everyone and fully respects those with different or no faith-based orientations. Jennifer is happy to incorporate a faith-based orientation into her work if it is helpful for her client or leave it unmentioned for those who would not find it helpful. While our backgrounds, unique environments, and varying experiences often result in different kinds of brokenness, there is always a path to feeling more empowered, finding greater understanding, experiencing healing, and finding beauty.
