Jeremy Wilks, LMHCA

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR,
Pronouns: He/Him

Jeremy’s journey to becoming a mental health counselor involved several different experiences such as providing care to adolescent boys with developmental disabilities, serving as a behavioral technician for children diagnosed with ASD, and working in a long-term patient treatment center for children. During a season of reflection, Jeremy realized that these and other experiences had one crucial thing in common – they all involved helping people. Throughout this journey he discovered the power of change, choice, and challenge. What are the choices we get to make about who we are and how we present? How can we free ourselves from the cage we feel we are in? Can we find growth and benefit within the motus of change? To learn how to help others navigate these types of questions, Jeremy added to his lived experiences and two Bachelors (one in Women’s and Gender Studies and a second in Psychology, from Pacific Lutheran University) a Masters in Counseling from Saint Martin’s University.

Jeremy sees a variety of clients including individual young adults and adults struggling with concerns about anxiety, depression, trauma, autism, ADHD, and questions about identity including sexuality and gender. Those finding themselves at a crossroads, about to take some big steps forward, or considering life-changing decisions such as career, school, or relationship adjustments, are welcomed by Jeremy who approaches change as an opportunity to discover and embrace our most authentic selves. Some therapeutic approaches Jeremy finds particularly useful include attachment theory, positive psychology, person-centered approaches, and certain DBT interventions for some clients.

No matter who Jeremy finds himself sitting with in the therapeutic space, his desire is for his clients to show up as they are in the moment, versus who they want to be or think they should be. In a world that demands a lot from us and makes it difficult and even unsafe to be who we really are, Jeremy offers a safe place for clients to practice authenticity where they will be encouraged, valued, appreciated. In this way he takes time to learn about his clients through a living exchange. He listens intently, respectfully, and with unconditional positive regard. Over time he helps clients make a synthesis of what they share, identifying how it might connect, and find a way forward that feels best for the client’s desire for themselves. Jeremy is honored to do this work alongside each of his clients and looks forward to having real conversations about making real and lasting changes to how each chooses to present in their lives.
