Jessica Smarra, LMFTA

A Note from Jessica:

Welcome to Twin Lakes Counseling!
I'm so glad you are here.

As a therapist, I see people at the hardest times in their life and consider it a privilege because of the opportunity I have to see the strength, resilience, and potential for healing beneath it all. Every day I get to walk beside a family, I am humbled by the space we share because  I know I am not just in the room with the person(s) in front of me but also the generations before them and the generations yet to come. I am witnessing the healing of the past, present, and future of a family. A community. A society.

Sometimes, after so long of trying to hold it all together, we need a place to fall apart. I believe therapy is an opportunity to sit across from another person and be seen in ways that may not always feel safe in our day-to-day life.

Feeling hopeful may seem distant, maybe impossible right now. If you are reading this, there is a part of you that believes things can get better. You have already taken a big step by pursuing therapy. My hope is that no matter whose therapeutic space you choose to share, you leave feeling empowered to be the driving force of change in your life. You are already doing it.

Jessica Smarra, LMFTA

Jessica received her masters degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, and is currently a PhD student and remotely attends Antioch University New England in Keene, NH. Her counseling approach integrates systemic, experiential, and narrative therapies. Jessica’s research interests include the intersection of stigmatizing dominant discourses, trauma, and mental health. She is passionate about providing and increasing access to empowering, affirming, and transformative therapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families.

Jessica specializes in supporting trauma-impacted individuals, couples, and families and has extensive experience working with issues related to complex trauma. She works beside survivors of persistent interpersonal abuse (physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect in childhood or adulthood) as well as those who find themselves wanting to shift their harmful behaviors within relationships. She works with parents and caregivers who desire support in being intentional, effective, and safe in their parenting practices. She also enjoys helping clients navigate a wide range of other concerns: relationship distress, behavioral concerns, communication concerns, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and others. She facilitates a collaborative process that actively works with you to establish and meet your goals. She fosters new ways of experiencing to support clients on their journey toward a deeper understanding of self, increased self-confidence, connection, and empowerment.

Jessica also feels a special calling to support those who feel marginalized, for any variety of reasons, because this world can be cruel, narrow-minded, and ill-informed. This can lead to an incredible feeling of lonliness, isolation, and misunderstanding. Jessica's goal in therapy is to guide her clients to a feeling of greater empowerment where from they become the driving force of change in their life.

She is a gender and sexuality affirming, kink-friendly, and poly-friendly therapist.

Jessica Smarra is a master's level clinician and a licensed marriage and family therapist associate in the state of Washington. She is supervised by Rebekah Woods, PhD, LMFT.
