CLINICAL INTERN
Jillian pursued her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary studies from Western Washington University, where she had autonomy over her coursework and direction of study which she directed towards teaching art in alternative settings after graduation. Surprisingly enough, it was through teaching horseback riding lessons and ‘paint and sip classes’ (some of her favorite classes to teach), that she became aware of the reward gained from deeper human connection and hearing individual stories. It was through teaching in different contexts that highlighted what was drawing her to counseling and fueling her passion for helping others in their unique journey. Jillian is currently obtaining her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky.
While the field of counseling piqued Jillian’s interest later in life, she has always had a special place in her heart for horses starting from a young age, which she refers to as her childhood obsession. As such, Jillian currently has an Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) certification in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Jillian hopes to integrate her two passions. Much like her desire to understand the biology, mechanics, and complex ways in which humans interact with these beautiful creatures, she approaches her work with clients in a similar way.
Jillian is open to working with a variety of individuals and feels a draw to specifically working with couples, older adolescents, and young adults dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, and relational distress. Jillian pulls from various theories with a relational focused approach. Jillian believes that to understand a person, one must understand how their past informs their development and influences their current patterns. Taking from systems theory, attachment theory, internal family systems, emotions focused therapy, and existentialism, Jillian hopes to meet you where you are at. With Jillian, you will be heard, understood, and validated. Jillian recognizes that change can be slow and steady and is ready to work with you to achieve small, intentional, and attainable goals. Jillian believes that collaboration is important in the therapeutic space but ultimately feels that you are the expert of your life and aims to help you gain further desired insight.
