sonder [noun] – the profound realization that each passerby possesses a life as vivid and complex as your own
When Samhar first encountered the concept of sonder, he felt he’d been given a word to encapsulate the deep, intuitive knowing he’d always had: that every individual carries a unique story within them, waiting to be shared and understood.
Samhar has always felt drawn to helping others and understanding the human mind and behavior. As a student, he initially pursued a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology from Michigan State University, hoping to better understand how humans think and behave. However, he soon realized his true passion lay in using this knowledge to help people overcome emotional and psychological challenges in their lives.
After much reflection, Samhar decided to pursue a career in social work with a specialization in trauma. He obtained a Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan, and is now a licensed therapist with over two years of experience working in both community mental health and private practice. Samhar's area of expertise is in helping individuals heal from trauma and achieve greater emotional wellbeing.
Samhar's approach to therapy is holistic and person-centered. He believes in accepting clients as they are and providing them with a safe and non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. He incorporates a range of therapeutic theories and models, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and family systems.
Drawing on his own experiences growing up in Saudi Arabia and later moving to the United States, Samhar has a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals living in culturally diverse environments. He is committed to social justice work and outreach programs beyond his career as a therapist, and is passionate about helping those who have experienced oppression, refugeeism, and other unique family of origin struggles.
With Samhar, you can expect to work collaboratively towards achieving your treatment goals, no matter how big or small. He will provide a supportive, empowering environment in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, and will work with you to develop effective strategies for coping with life's challenges. Embracing the essence of sonder, Samhar is dedicated to helping you discover and share your own unique story.
