Anna Wallace, MFT Intern

Anna Wallace, MFT Intern

Pronouns: She/Her

Anna has always appreciated and enjoyed listening to and reading about the lives and experiences of others. She feels most alive when pursuing her desire to know, understand, and connect with others through the sharing of stories, experiences, and movement. It took her a while to realize that society's idea and expectation of her - whether as an introvert, a female-body, a veteran, or a youngest sibling - were only true if she believed them more than she trusted in her own experience and understanding of herself. She is so grateful for this humbling, joyful, rich, and meaningful path of discovering that helping others through therapy and movement is exactly what she wants to do. Anna is building on her Bachelor of Science in English Literature from the United States Air Force Academy with a master's degree in Dance/Movement Therapy - Couples and Family Therapy from Antioch University - New England.

Anna provides therapy to individuals of all ages, couples, and families working with a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, chronic pain / illnesses, trauma, boundaries, feelings of being stuck, and questions surrounding identity. She is also passionate about working with children/adolescents, couples struggling to connect or wanting to deepen their relationships, and individuals wanting to develop and maintain healthy boundaries. While she tailors her approach to fit the needs of her clients, Anna finds herself to be a relational therapist and a systems thinker which means she believes all relationships - be it with partners, society, the self, the natural world, etc - are invaluable in their ability to spark personal growth, self-discovery, and healing. Other approaches and theories she finds useful include attachment theory, narrative therapy, and emotionally-focused therapy.

Anna also believes in the power of movement and the inherent wisdom held in our bodies. This means she approaches her work with an understanding of how our minds and our bodies are connected and influence each other. She believes greater integration between our mind and body is required to fully process, heal from, and interact with our lived experiences. In support of this effort, and always with the permission of her client, Anna will invite and utilize physical movement into her therapeutic work as it often helps uncover, identify, express, communicate, and process feelings, experiences, and ideas better than talking or thinking. Words are often difficult and clumsy, so reconnecting with our first language of movement can be very helpful and enlightening.

In working with clients, Anna aims to make her in-person or virtual therapy room a space where her clients feel invited and secure to honestly reflect on their lived and felt experiences without fear of judgement. She works to build a trusting, authentic, and strong therapeutic relationship where anything can be brought up and worked on collaboratively, openly, respectfully, and curiously. Anna appreciates the opportunity to come alongside her clients as they untangle narratives while finding and navigating a way forward that allows them to show up in the way they desire to and connect more deeply with themselves and others.
