Sometimes you feel as though you’re doomed to have your entire life story defined by the place you’re at right now. Depression and anxiety can be overwhelming, taking over your daily life in a multitude of ways. Anxiety makes us feel as though we’re being torn, pulled in a thousand different directions, making it impossible to find a way forward. Depression can make us feel stuck in one place and unable to perceive any way out.
Maybe you’ve tried different solutions and, if they didn’t work, you have come to feel trapped in a cycle, doubtful that things will ever change. Or maybe this is the first time you’ve considered taking action and you aren’t sure if there’s a path forward.
Our team of accomplished and caring therapists understands the pain and difficulty you find yourself in right now. Your emotions are real. We have experience helping people see things they haven’t thought of. Identifying blind spots. Charting paths forward you may not have considered.
A goal of our counseling sessions is to help you see more. We work with you to build a path toward more possibilities, more momentum, more strategies, more solace, and more hope. Looking beyond your own blind spots can help you envision that path forward. We’ve built our practice on the belief that growth is possible through compassion, dedication, determination, and authenticity.
If you are so miserable you would do anything to make the pain stop, or so frustrated by the seesaw of emotional highs and lows that you’ve begun to wonder if it’s even worth continuing, we promise that you do not have to become trapped in this place of despair. These patterns are not inescapable and we would like to help you write the next chapter of a purposeful and hopeful life.
Maybe you’ve tried therapy before, or maybe the process seems new and intimidating. Perhaps you think you have to wait until you feel better to discuss your feelings, or you’ve been holding out for a period of time when you are less overwhelmed.
We understand that asking for help takes courage. Our Federal Way therapists strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental experience and form genuine, progress-focused connections with our clients. You don’t have to wait for the right time to ask for support.
We take a holistic, authentic, and creative approach to mental wellness, with the goal of helping you achieve effective, long-lasting improvements. Our therapists are proud to serve clients in Auburn, Federal Way, Puyallup, Kent, and Tacoma. Whether you’re looking for yourself, a friend, or family member, our kind and competent staff can help you find the support you need. If you’re interested in a faith-based approach to family therapy, we also have select therapists who are able to provide this service.
Because depression is often accompanied by learned helplessness, reaching out and asking for help can be extremely difficult for those suffering from its symptoms. If you’re experiencing learned helplessness, it means you’re currently in a state where believing in the possibility of change has become incredibly difficult. The human brain’s natural reaction to repeated pain is often to give up and quit trying. Perhaps you’re unable to get out of bed, suffering from feelings of guilt or worthlessness, losing interest in activities or subjects you once enjoyed, or experiencing persistent dark thoughts. These are all manifestations of learned helplessness.
If you are experiencing suspicions that nothing could possibly work, please call and make an appointment to talk with one of our therapists. Even though you might not believe it right now, you are capable of more than you realize. We’d love to work with you to overcome these challenges. Working closely with a supportive counselor in a safe and confidential environment will give you the tools you need to create a pathway out from underneath the shadow of depression.
We provide counseling and treatment for multiple forms of depression, including major depression and manic depression. Twin Lakes Counseling has a history of bringing hope and healing to our community in Federal Way, Washington, and beyond. We also offer group therapy options for those with depression.
