You're trying to keep your head straight, hold your life together, keep the wounds on the inside, and your soul hidden away from any more trauma. How can trauma and PTSD counseling help me?

Like any wound, there comes a time to let fresh air and light bring about healing. But so often we cannot adequately and fully tend to a wound on our own - nor should we. But who can you trust? Maybe you feel embarressed. Maybe you're terrified to look at the wound again. Maybe you don't see how talking about it could possibly make it better.

We are here to tell you that you don't have to live a life constrained by the past. Healing is possible, and resolution can happen - and we are here to help you through the process.

At Twin Lakes Counseling, we offer a safe, private, and judgement-free space with highly skilled, experienced, and compassionate therapists whose passion is listening, understanding, and shedding the healing power of light on what holds us down and holds us back. Though the work is yours to do, you will not be doing it alone, thanks to your very own teammate and guide.

Your past experiences - both good and bad - shape who you are today but do not define you. Flashbacks, intrusive memories, nightmares, avoidance, insomnia, lack of passion, hightened alertness, shame - all of these are normal responses to traumatic events. But they do not have to be "normal" in your every day life, nor should they dictate how you live. Remember - freedom is possible.

Change is possible. Our team is invested in the continual and lasting growth of our clients, providing meaningful support that empowers you to write your own story.

Types of trauma therapy

at Twin Lakes Counseling

Our counselors can offer several types of trauma therapy to help you on your journey to healing.

Military counseling

Strength and resilience can also look like asking for support - this is where our therapists can help. We offer counseling to members of the military community for PTSD and trauma, relationship issues pre-, post- or during deployment, and parenting help. Military counseling is designed to help you process your experiences and offer you a path to healing. Whether you are suffering from painful flashbacks or intrusive memories, our therapists have extensive experience in military counseling and are here to support you.

Sexual trauma therapy

If you are a survivor of sexual abuse, it can be hard to know who and where to turn. At Twin Lakes Counseling, our therapists are professionally trained in sexual trauma therapy and will listen to you with the patience, empathy, and understanding you deserve. Your therapy session will take place in a safe, confidential environment for you to process your experiences and begin your journey to healing.

Therapy for childhood trauma

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur during childhood. For example, as a child, you may have witnessed violence in your home, or you may have experienced abuse or neglect. These experiences are challenging to overcome and can result in poor mental and physical health. But you don't need to deal with your experiences alone: we offer compassionate therapy for childhood trauma to explore the impact of your family of origin and help you find the closure you need to move forward with your life.

Complex PTSD counseling

With complex PTSD (or c-PTSD), you may experience some of the typical symptoms of trauma alongside others, including pervasive feelings of emptiness, difficulty controlling your emotions, and dissociation. These feelings can be incredibly frightening and overwhelming, and are therapists are here to help you find a way through them. At Twin Lakes Counseling, our complex PTSD counseling is designed to give you the tools you need to create a pathway out of these feelings in a supportive environment.
