Julia Wakeham, LMFTA

Julia Wakeham, LMFTA

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST
Pronouns: She/Her

Julia’s desire to work in a helping profession was solidified after taking a high school psychology class where she became fascinated with the complexity of the human mind. She decided to pursue further knowledge in psychology while also pursuing her interest in humanizing work. These interests led her to earn her bachelor’s in Psychology from University of North Texas, TX and to pursue her Master of Arts in Intercultural and Reconciliation Studies along with her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific Seminary, WA. Thus equipped, she hopes to have as great an impact on the world around her as she can, helping people through some of their darkest moments or most challenging curiosities of life.

Hearing her client’s stories and perspectives is what Julia loves most about her work. It is often in the details, sometimes small and seemingly insignificant, where transformative work can happen. As a therapist, Julia has found solution-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused techniques most helpful and impactful with her clients. Other approaches and techniques she uses are tailored to the client’s needs and goals. Julia believes in collaborating with her clients, the experts on their lives, to best support growth, understanding, healing, and empowerment towards whatever goals are set.

Julia sees individuals of all ages, families, and couples seeking help with depression, anxiety, relational struggles, life transitions, and more. She is also passionate about working with people recovering from trauma, living with neurodivergence, and those working through spiritual or existential questions or deconstructing some other areas of their life. Julia is skilled at discerning the spiritual and emotional needs of her clients and tailoring the therapy she provides.

Those particularly nervous about coming to therapy will find Julia a wonderful fit. Her comfortable, caring, and grounded personality in conjunction with her “let’s get to know each other” conversational approach allows for a disarming environment. While she is intentional, committed, and seriously appreciative of the vulnerable and difficult work her clients come to her to guide them through, she is also aware of the benefits of coming back to a casual conversation and even incorporating some light humor. Having a reliable and trusting connection with her clients is a key element for helping them get the work done.
