CLINICAL INTERN
Pronouns: She/Her
Ashlee cares deeply about the unique stories of her clients. Her lifelong interests in the creative
arts, the natural world, and human connection allow her to see the wonder in everyday
experiences. However, it is Ashlee’s intimate familiarity with grief and loss that help her walk alongside clients holding the deep nuances of hardship and joy simultaneously. Life is not just one thing – it is complex, it is weighty, and it can still be beautiful.
Ashlee received a bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts from Binghamton University and received her master’s degree in Education from Elmira College, where she trained to be a high school teacher. She’s reinvented herself several times, most recently transitioning to counseling from a professional career in Human Resources. While working in HR, she realized that she wanted to serve her clients in a more relationally familiar and individualized way. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University.
Ashlee enjoys seeing a wide variety of clients. She has a heart for recovery communities and those facing life transitions, honoring all that it requires to persevere against great odds. She brings a welcoming energy to her work with teenagers and young adults and prides herself on being a safe place to explore what it means to be exactly who you are. Additionally, Ashlee has a special interest in working with eating disorder clients and approaches this work through radical acceptance, openness to body neutrality, and a health at every size (HAES) philosophy.
The therapeutic relationship is paramount in her practice as she seeks to promote client agency, autonomy, and honesty, with a posture of non-judgment. Ashlee is a person-centered clinician and utilizes approaches that borrow from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and existential views. She is also interested in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), particularly mindfulness and skills work, and the potential it has to help clients merge acceptance, change, and action. She has experience running groups on spirituality and self-discovery that foster a reliable sense of support and safety. These groups have empowered members to question profoundly meaningful and personal topics in a nurturing and client-led container.
Ashlee is a bachelor’s-level mental health counseling intern at Twin Lakes Counseling. She is supervised by Anthony O’Leary, LMHC (NPI 1376195073, License LH00004150).
