Welcome to Twin Lakes Counseling!
I'm so glad you are here.
I enjoy working with a variety of client constellations including families, couples, and individuals from all walks of life. I am interested in the ways in which people story their lives, the effects of dominant and local discourses on these stories, and the development of more empowering alternatives.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing where our work together takes us!
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST
Pronouns: She/Her
It is rumored that Copernicus first conceived of the idea that the Earth revolved around the Sun by imagining himself to be standing on the Sun's surface; it was from this new, reality-shifting perspective that he was able to "see" the true nature of the solar system. Within this anecdote, Sinead finds a metaphor for the therapeutic process: the introduction of a fresh perspective - be that through development of an alternate identity narrative, a broadened world-view, or a newfound bodily awareness - can be the key to reanimating a paralyzed system.
Raised in a bed-and-breakfast in upstate New York, Sinead's childhood environment encouraged the development of an open, inviting, and respectful demeanor. Her love of stories and her desire to work closely with people navigating the challenges of life ultimately led her to pursue a career in couple and family therapy. After achieving a Bachelor's in Theatre from Bard College at Simon's Rock, MA, Sinead went on to obtain her Master's in Couple and Family Therapy from Antioch University-New England. She views therapy as a collaborative way-finding process where clients and therapist work alongside each other toward the goal of greater personal and relational satisfaction.
Sinead firmly embraces a systemic perspective, meaning that she approaches all problems and solutions with an eye towards relational, cultural, and environmental context. Because of this, her ideal therapeutic scenario involves having multiple people in the room (couples, families, groups, etc.). She welcomes clients of any gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, age, and ability!
Additionally, with a background in hospice volunteer work, Sinead feels a deep pull towards working with those engaged in the grieving process. She also has a special interest in the effects of trauma on the body and brain, and hopes to pursue post-graduate certification in a body-based psychotherapy modality.
Sinead is licensed as a marriage and family therapist associate in the state of Washington (MG61179018). She is supervised by Danielle Scarsella-Gonia, LMFT (LF60835868; NPI # 1740653120).
