MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR
Pronouns: She/Her
Dominique knows that life can bring unbearable pain and she knows how important and rare it is to find someone to listen, support, and encourage without judgment. Her own life experiences and her observation of the dysfunctional systems within our society have moved Dominique into action. She decided to help people - not just push through hard times - but to make meaning and grow as a person because of those hard times. Dominique achieved her Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Community Health from the University of Maryland and since 2017 has worked to help those in her community find needed support and resources as a family support worker, client advocate, and senior case manager. During this time, she saw an acute need for greater access to mental health support and completed her Master of Science in Counseling from Capella University to help meet that need.
Dominique provides therapy to individuals, couples, and families struggling with a wide variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, relationships distress, life transitions, oppression, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, grief, and pregnancy/infertility/PCOS. She is also passionate about working with those who are underserved such as people of color and mixed-race backgrounds, the LGBTQIA+ community, and children/adolescents. Dominique utililizes many different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of her client and finds Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and strengths-based approaches to be particularly useful. Her aim is to bring healing and to utilize her wealth of experience to help clients find and utilize resources in their own lives.
Dominique's clients can expect to experience a safe space filled with assistance, honesty, and groundedness as she listens, makes observations, and provides her skills as a therapist. She is very committed to her clients' wholistic wellbeing, their goals, and she values transparency within the therapeutic relationship. Dominique takes great care with being both an encourager and a challenger and is very communicative. Her goal is to help her clients reach their own version of self-actualization. Dominique is honored by her client's bravery in sharing their story, their willingness to trust her guidance, and their time and commitment to the process.
When she isn't providing therapy to her clients, Dominique is engaged in programs and work that make an impact on the community and affect policy change for those in need and especially the homeless community.
