How do I know if I need therapy?

Some common symptoms and signs that seeing a therapist could be beneficial include feeling overwhelmed and stressed, chronic fatigue, disproportionate rage or anger, feeling afraid to leave your home, experiencing anxious or intrusive thoughts, a loss of interest in usual activities, hopelessness, and social withdrawal.

Do any of your issues/symptoms cause you to:

  • Think or cope with them at least an hour each day?
  • Feel embarrassed and make you want to avoid others?
  • Suffer from a decreased quality of life?
  • Struggle in school, work, or with relationships?
  • Change your life or develop habits to cope?

There is no right or wrong reason to get therapy. Whether you have specific symptoms you'd like help with, or a general discontentedness with your life in it's present state, our therapists are here to listen and assist you in getting to where you want to be.

What will getting therapy look like?

So you have decided to give therapy a try. Great! You have sent us your information through the "Let's Begin" link which has allowed our Client Care Coordinator to match you with one of our therapists. You have been contacted to schedule your first appointment. What is it going to be like?

After checking in at the front desk, you'll be able to get a cup of tea, coffee, or water and sit in our comfortable waiting room. Your therapist will come out to greet you and welcome you into a room with... you guessed it... couches. There is no right or wrong choice here, so choose whichever one you're drawn to and have a seat.

This first session will be primarily for getting to know one another so feel free to ask whatever questions you have, or if you're feeling a bit shy and awkward, allow your therapist to break the ice. No one is expecting you to jump right into your deepest darkest secrets... though if you would like to get right into it, you can bet your therapist is ready and willing to go there with you.

The rest of your sessions, as with the first, will be aimed at supporting you with whatever you may need for that session. However, often we have no idea where to start or where to go from wherever it is we are at. That is more than okay as well. Your therapist will always have an idea of where to go next.

Benefits to Therapy

Therapy can lead to improvement in all areas of life. If you feel like something is holding you back from living life as you envision it, therapy can help you address this. When you aren’t sure what’s keeping you from making change, therapy can help you discover the answer.

When considering therapy, it is easy to think about the drawbacks. You may be concerned with cost or have heard about how difficult the work can be. Therapy isn't always a quick fix and certainly requires a lot of honesty with and trust in both yourself and your therapist. But if you are willing, therapy will offer you a safe, judegment-free space where you can share anything with a trained professional who is there to help. Here are just a few benefits:

  • You will learn more about yourself. As your therapist listens to your story, they are able to make connections and offer insights and guidance if you feel lost.
  • Therapy can help you achieve goals you already have, clarify ones that are vague or seem unachievable, or discover new ones to help empower you.
  • Therapy can help you relate more with others leading to more fulfilled relationships, less insecurity, and increased level of trust.
  • You are more likely to experience better health as research supports a link between mind and body wellness.

Change is possible. Our team is invested in our clients' continual and lasting growth, providing meaningful support that empowers you to write your own story.
