MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR ASSOCIATE*
Pronouns: She/Her
Due to her parents serving in the military, Angelica moved frequently which exposed her to adversity, strength, and bravery among youth from varying backgrounds. In communities where mental health services were not readily available or embraced, Angelica learned the value of connection and relationship, recognizing the importance of support from the community. These formative experiences led to a desire to support youth through providing mental health services. She pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Gender and Sexuality studies at the University of Washington to further explore social development and obtained her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.
Angelica is passionate about working with different developmental levels, from children, preteens, and teenagers to young adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, identity issues, trauma, familial conflict, and relationship struggles. Being a BIPOC woman, Angelica is dedicated to working with marginalized and underserved populations and making mental health services more accessible. She aims to cultivate an affirming and inclusive environment for all and operates from a strengths-based perspective. Angelica believes strongly in the importance of advocating for her clients both inside and outside of the therapy office. Her approach utilizes therapeutic techniques derived from Relational Cultural Theory, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. Angelica also enjoys integrating expressive arts and play into her therapeutic process.
Angelica believes in a personalized, experiential, and creative approach to therapy, collaborating with each client to determine the most meaningful way to reach their goals. She values a holistic and systemic approach to therapy, integrating the mind-body connection with identity. Angelica focuses strongly on creating emotionally corrective experiences for her clients in which they can grow through present moment experiences and awareness. Together, Angelica walks with her clients through the journey of life, whether this is metaphorically hiking up a steep mountain or sailing down a calm river. Her style is warm and empathetic yet humorous and filled with curiosity. With Angelica, the therapeutic relationship provides a secure base for clients to return and stay grounded in throughout their journey. She trusts that through authentic connection, even the most unsteady and uncertain paths can reveal new strength, courage, and the possibility of transformation.
