Katie Cain, MHC iNTERN
CLINICAL INTERN
Katie is pursuing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University and has professional experience in inclusive classrooms and early learning settings. Shaped by her own early childhood struggles, she is a lifelong advocate for children and families and is passionate about working with people of all ages towards holistic health. Katie was drawn to her program by a desire to understand the deeper connections between the mind and body and to assist in supporting others in healing at both emotional and somatic levels. Katie felt called to this work after receiving counseling that went beyond talk therapy and helped her heal pain through bodily awareness. Her background in classrooms and early learning environments has included roles as both a teacher and program coordinator. These experiences have equipped her with skills in observation and relationship-building as she delivered inclusive play-based learning, cultivated culturally-responsive relationships, and connected families to resources,
Working with topics such as depression, anxiety, and complex-PTSD, Katie approaches clients with cultural humility, compassion, and a yearning to explore creative ways of meeting life’s challenges. Katie celebrates neurodivergence. She understands the challenges of navigating a neurotypical world, and has experience living with ADHD and partnering with Autistic individuals. In her work with children, Katie’s goal is to create an autonomous environment using child centered play therapy, and building trust before addressing mental and behavioral opportunities. She meets every child as a person with inherent worth and potential.
Katie encourages healing through safe, attuned relationships and believes meaningful change begins by reconnecting with client’s inherent strengths. Guided by a trauma-informed lens, she utilizes a person-centered approach that honors clients’ lived experiences and nervous system needs. As a strengths-based counselor, Katie focuses on emotional insight, flexible perspective taking, and values aligned goal setting.
Katie is a bachelor’s level clinical mental health counseling intern in the state of Washington supervised by Sharayah Lewis, LMHC (LF60632926; NPI number: 1528479938).
